The mission of the ISTI is to advance scientific understanding and technological innovation in Illinois through discovery, education, invention, and partnership.
About the Institute
The Illinois Science & Technology Institute (ISTI) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity and an affiliated, complementary effort to the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition.
The Institute was established to enhance opportunities for philanthropic public private partnership, engage in grant-making, and provide a vehicle to develop and deliver educational programming. The Institute advances science and technology through educational initiatives, the provision of grants to institutions and organizations for research in the areas of science and technology, and by providing resources for (a) entrepreneurial activities; (b) technology advancement and adoption and (c) educational initiatives that support economic development through science and technology in the state of Illinois.
In September 2012, ISTI was selected to lead the R&D STEM Learning Exchange as part of the Illinois Pathways Race to the Top program. Coordinated through a partnership between the State’s education and economic development agencies, Illinois Pathways supports programs that empower youth and adults to explore academic and career interests in STEM fields. The R&D STEM Learning Exchange is the primary program of the Illinois Science & Technology Institute. Learn more about the RDLE here.
ISTI also provides project management services to the Illinois Science and Energy Innovation Foundation (ISEIF), a not-for-profit entity established pursuant to the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act to provide consumer education about smart grid technology and consumer facing technologies. ISTI has assisted ISEIF in developing and managing grant programs to provide consumer education to Illinois residents, including $4 million in grants in 2014.
