Biosecurity and Defense
This edition of ISTC Catalyst is focused on biosecurity and defense. Natural disasters, infectious diseases and foodborne contaminents have the potential to threaten our quality-of-life and endanger the nation’s biosecurity. Researchers in Illinois are advancing products and techniques that address some of our most pressing biosecurity concerns. From testing food toxicology levels to identifying protein structures, Illinois-based research institutions are safeguarding the nation’s food supply and discovering biodefense antibiotics. Advancements made in the lab not only enhance our biosecurity, but they also create products with everyday applications that protect consumers and create therapies that defend against biohazards. Please read on to learn more about these advancements in research and development that are enhancing our biosecurity and defense.
